Cal Poly Men's Swimming Outlasted by No. 9 USC, 116-81

SAN LUIS OBISPO-- The Cal Poly men's swimming team wrapped up its first meet of the season against USC Friday night, falling to the Trojans 116-81.

Cal Poly's junior Pearu Pold took first place in the 500-yard free after finishing in 4:40.83, while junior Nolan Newland took second for the Mustangs (4:44.86) and sophomore Morgan Moore took third (4:53.23). 

Junior Brandon Nguyen boasted a 57.65 time in the 100-yard breast for the Mustangs, landing him in first place for that event.

The Mustang earned top three performances in the 400-yard free, including the quartet of Newland, freshman Paul Rogers, junior Alex Behnam and freshman Nicky Erickson finished with a time of 3:12.98, putting them in first place.

Pold came in third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a mark of 9:38.87, while freshman Alex Tschopp came in fourth with a time of 9:51.59.

The Mustang quartet of freshman Tyler Soo, senior Caleb Davies,  Erickson and freshman Nic Clark finished fourth in the 200-yard med relay (1:35.07).

Davies made a mark of 21.57 in the 50-yard free, coming in second, while Behnam came in third in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:43.18.

Nguyen placed third in the 100-yard IM (53.07) while Cootes came in fourth (53.35).

Sophomore Dominic Dalpiaz put up a time of 46.92, putting him in second place in the 100-yard free.
