SAN DIEGO — Senior Nolan Newland, junior Brian Whittington, senior Bonnie Diamond and junior Emily Imfeld each won two events as Cal Poly swimming & diving competed in a double dual meet at San Diego State Saturday against the Aztecs and Air Force.
The men's team competed solely against Air Force while the women's team competed against both San Diego State and Air Force.
Newland won the 1,000-yard free with a time of 9:33.70, six seconds faster than second place. He later won the 500-yard free with a time of 4:34.77.
Whittington won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.26. He followed that by winning the 200-yard breast with a time of 2:04.64.
Diamond won the women's 200-yard free with a time of 1:53.29. She then won the 500 free with a time of 5:02.06.
Imfeld won the 50-yard free with a time of 23.84 and followed that up with a win in the 100 free with a time of 51.63.
In diving, freshman Noah McKinley had the high score on the 1-meter with a score of 265.80. Sophomore Riley Saufley finished first in the men's 3-meter diving with a score of 283.05.
Overall, the men's team won 10 events while the women's team won seven events.
Other Mustangs who won an event included Dominic Dalpiaz, Caitlin Cox, Amelia Feick and Zach Cootes.
The men's team also won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:33.84 and the 400 free relay with a time of 3:03.74. The women's team won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:31.15.
In overall team scores, the Cal Poly men defeated Air Force 175-119. The women's team beat Air Force 215-72 but fell to San Diego State 165-132.
