Cal Poly Swimming and Diving Sweeps UC Santa Cruz Saturday

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The Cal Poly swimming and diving team swept UC Santa Cruz, winning a total of 29 of the combined 32 events. The men's team beat the Banana Slugs 190-99 and the women's team won 197-91.

A total of 21 Mustangs won individual events on the day, with four Mustangs (two men and two women) winning multiple individual events. Cal Poly also won all four team relay events.

On the men's side, it was junior Miles Dunn and sophomore Daniel Macavei winning two events each. Dunn won both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. He won the 100 with a time of 58.06 and the 200 breast with a time of 2:05.58, the second-fastest time on the team this season. Macavei won the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.90, third fastest time on the team this season, and the 200 back with a time of 1:53.73, the second-fastest team time this season.

On the women's side, junior Amelia Feick (pictured) and senior Elizabeth Peterson both won two events each on the day. Feick won both the 200 breast and 200 individual medley. She won the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.50, the second-fastest time on the team this season. She then won the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.97, third-fastest time on the team this year. Peterson won both the 100 and 200 butterfly. She won the 100 fly with a time of 58.28, nearly four seconds ahead of second place and the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.51.

Freshman women's diver Molly Wilson won the lone diving event of the day for the Mustangs with a winning score of 256.15 in the 3-meter dive.

The 29 combined team wins are the most the Mustangs have won in a single meet this season.

Cal Poly will next host rival UC Santa Barbara for its senior day Saturday, February 2nd at 11 a.m. from Anderson Aquatics Center. Admission is free to everyone. The Gauchos won the last meeting this season back in October.
