Mustangs Draw Pac-12 Washington for First Round of WNIT, Wednesday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's basketball team will travel to Washington for the first round game of the Women's National Invitational Tournament game on Wednesday

The Mustangs enter the game 17-.14 overall while Washington is 17-13 overall and finished 8-10 in conference play.

This will be the first meeting between the teams.

The Mustangs won the Big West Conference Regular Season Championship with a 12-4 record. Cal Poly lost in the semifinals to Long Beach State, 51-48, on Friday. Washington enters the game 17-13 overall and 8-10 in Pac-12 play.

Cal Poly has won eight of the last 10 ten games and 11 of the last 13 games while Washington has won six of the last 10 games.

Washington lost its season-opener to UC Davis (69-68), but defeated Cal State Northridge (73-67), UC Santa Barbara (46-37) and Long Beach State (80-46).

The Mustangs finished the regular season as the conference champions, but lost in the semifinal round of the tournament to Long Beach State while Washington lost to Stanford in the quarterfinal round of the Pac-12, 76-57, after defeating Oregon, 72-56, in the opening round.

The Mustangs are led by senior Kristina Santiago who averages 23.3 points per game and 10.1 rebounds. Ashlee Burns checks in with 9.0 point while she shoots 41 present long range.  

Washington is led by a pair of players averaging better then 10 or more or points a game. Regina Rogers and Jazmine Davis lead the team with 16.2 and 16.2 points per game respectively. Mackenzie Argens leads the team with 6.6 rebounds.

Kayla Griffin adds 8.5 points and 6.7 rebounds for the Mustangs while Ariana Elegado chips in with 5.0 points and 2.3 assists per game.
