Leaupepe Earns Big West, College Sports Madness Weekly Awards

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly senior Dynn Leaupepe was selected as the Big West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, in addition to also being named the university's Coca-Cola Student-Athlete of the Week, as well as College Sports Madness' National Mid-Major Player of the Week the same afternoon.

The accolades come after Leaupepe averaged 35 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals during a conference-opening road split.

Leaupepe scored 40 points — tied for the NCAA's sixth-highest performance this season and six off the school record — Thursday night at UC Riverside, as the Mustangs rallied from a 13-point deficit (the program's largest comeback since 2014) for an 87-82 overtime win.

Then on Saturday, Leaupepe also helped Cal Poly nearly complete a second comeback, scoring 30 as the Mustangs cut a 19-point deficit to three at UC Santa Barbara, ultimately falling 73-68.

Combined between the two games, she shot 52.2 percent from the floor (24-for-46). For the season, Leaupepe is averaging 18.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals.

Leaupepe's 1,294 career points rank No. 6 in school history, and her 513 rebounds are 11th. Her scoring total also ranks 79th among all active Division I players, while her career .820 free-throw percentage is 14th nationally.

This is her third career Big West Player of the Week award, and her first CSM National Mid-Major Player of the Week accolade.

Cal Poly (7-7) will return to Mott Athletics Center to host a three-game homestand starting Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. against CSUN (also Youth Basketball Day, as all kids 13-and-under receive free admission).
