Cal Poly Basketball's Evans Earns Academic All-Region Honors

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly senior Mary Kate Evans was selected for 2017-18 COSIDA Academic All-District honors on Thursday.

Evans, a forward from Atascadero (majoring in BioMedical Engineering), was announced as a Second Team selection for the region (NCAA District 8), which encompasses all of the Division I schools throughout California, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah and Hawai'i.

The five first-team honorees advanced to the Academic All-America selection process in March.

The full all-regional team, comprised of 12 student-athletes representing the 46 universities from the district, is listed below:

Evans has started 17 games this season for the Mustangs. She ranks No. 9 in the Big West Conference in 3-point percentage (.393) while averaging 4.7 points and 2.8 rebounds, also shooting .722 from the free-throw line.

Having qualified for the Big West All-Academic Team three consecutive seasons after redshirting her first year, Evans also earned Conference Commissioner's Highest Honors as a junior.

Evans, a 10-time Dean's List honoree, also won Cal Poly's overall Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award a year ago.
