Cal Poly's Sunday Game at USF Relocated to Cal State Monterey Bay

Cal Poly's Sunday Game at USF Relocated to Cal State Monterey Bay

SAN FRANCISCO — With the Bay Area's air quality still too hazardous for sporting events, Cal Poly's Sunday afternoon women's basketball game at San Francisco has been relocated to Cal State Monterey Bay. Tipoff will remain 2 p.m. for the now-neutral-site game being graciously hosted by the Otters.

The relocation was announced by USF Friday evening. As of 2 p.m. Friday, San Francisco's AQI (Air Quality Index) had reached the Very Unhealthy category.

Additionally, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has said that readings are likely to get worse moving forward as the smoke from the Butte County fires continue to filter into the Bay Area.

"After monitoring the Air Quality Index forecasts in San Francisco for the next 48 hours we have decided to move our Sunday doubleheader game to Cal State Monterey Bay, where the AQI projects to be much lower on Sunday," USF director of athletics Scot Sidwell said in a statement.

"Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those facing the tragedy and catastrophic loss that is unfolding throughout many California communities due to the wildfires. We are thankful to the many people in the Bay Area that are focused on the safety of our community. We will look forward to playing our games on Sunday as scheduled thanks to the great people at Cal State Monterey Bay."

CSUMB will also host the Dons men's basketball game against LIU Brooklyn at 5 p.m. Sunday for a doubleheader.

The games are two of several sporting events all over the Bay Area that have been postponed or cancelled due to conditions. Sunday's game will be non-ticketed.
