Cal Poly to Visit Hawai'i for Big West Matchup Saturday Night

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly will continue Big West Conference play on the road this weekend, as the Mustang women's basketball team travels to Honolulu for a 7:30 p.m. PST tipoff Saturday at Hawai'i.

Spectrum Sports HI will televise the Feb. 2 matchup from the Stan Sheriff Center, while ESPN 1420 AM will also broadcast starting at 5:30 p.m. local time on O'ahu.

The two schools already met this season, with Hawai'i overcoming a brief first-half deficit in Mott Athletics Center on Jan. 24 to win 71-54. The first matchup saw freshman guard Alli Hallberg score a season-high 19 points for Cal Poly in her debut collegiate start, but a 9-0 second-quarter run, along with a team-high 15-point performance from junior guard Courtney Middap keyed a road comeback for the Rainbow Wahine, placing the all-time series record at 10-8 in favor of the Mustangs.

Junior forward Makenna Woodfolk leads Hawai'i (7-11, 3-2) with 11.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, while senior forward Leah Salanoa adds 9.4 points and averages 4.8 boards. Also for UH, senior point guard Tia Kanoa (7.1 points per game) garnered Big West Player of the Week accolades on Jan. 14.

Following the flight home, Cal Poly (4-13, 1-5) will host Long Beach State at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, continuing the homestand against UC Davis at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

STAHLEY RISING IN THE RECORD BOOK: Cal Poly point guard Dye Stahley now ranks among the top 20 in program history for two career categories.

Stahley, a senior from Mesa, Arizona, has moved to No. 8 in school history for all-time assists with 291 — seven back of Odessa Jenkins (1998-02) for the No. 7 spot.

Additionally, Stahley ranks tied for 19th all-time at Cal Poly in career steals with 134, four shy of Catrina Taylor (1999-04) for No. 17 all-time.

For the season, Stahley begins the weekend third in the conference in steals per game (2.1) and tied for third in assists (5.0 — ranking 45th nationally). The Big West Best Hustle Award recipient as a junior and Cal Poly's Coca-Cola Student-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 14, Stahley's average of 35.5 minutes played per game in 2018-19 ranks No. 2 in the conference and 63rd throughout the country.

STANBACK NO. 10 IN THE BIG WEST IN SCORING: Mustang senior center Devin Stanback comes into this week 10th in the Big West in scoring, averaging 12.1 points.

Additionally, her field-goal percentage of .522 (third throughout the conference) ranks 59th nationally. Stanback joined Stahley on the All-Tournament Team for the ShareSLO Holiday Beach Classic on Nov. 24.

VESELA ADDS SCORING PUNCH: Since making her Cal Poly debut in the 60-50 win at Seattle U on Dec. 17, junior forward Hana Vesela is averaging 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds, each No. 2 on the squad.

Vesela, who played for the Czech Republic U-20 program at the 2016 FIBA European Championship, joined the Mustangs in a practice capacity this past February as a mid-year transfer from Michigan State.
