Cal Poly Women Golfers Third After First Round of Colby Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Laura Howard and Morgan Thomas (pictured at right) both shot 80 in the opening round Monday and are tied for sixth place in the Santa Clara Colby Invitational at the Silver Creek Country Club.

Asia Adell checked in with an 83, Kirsten Locke had an 84 and Caitlin Farley and Sorelle Sedej both shot 87 on the 6,146-yard par-72 course.

Howard and Sedej are competing as individuals.

Cal Poly is third in the three-team tournament with a 44-over-par 332 total, one stroke behind second-place Northern Colorado. Santa Clara leads its own tournament by 27 strokes over the Bears.

Individual co-leaders after 18 holes are Taylor Camany and Balbina Guajardo, both of Santa Clara, with 75s, one shot ahead of Northern Colorado's Carleigh Silvers and Santa Clara's Morgan McClure.

Final round will be played Tuesday morning.
