Cal Poly Women's Golf Finishes Second in Santa Clara Colby Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Cal Poly climbed into second place on the final day of competition in the Santa Clara Colby Invitational on Tuesday at Silver Creek Country Club.

Asia Adell and Caitlin Farley, who both shot in the 80s Monday, fired final-round par-72s on the 6,146-yard course while Kirsten Locke and Alex Phillips also moved from the 80s into the 70s in the final round of the 36-hole event.

Adell, who posted an 83 Monday, finished with an 11-over-par 155 total and fifth place while Farley, who opened with an 87, closed with a 159 total and a tie for sixth place.

Locke had rounds of 84 and 78 for a 162 total and finished tied for eighth place with Mustang teammate Phillips, who recorded rounds of 85 and 77.

Morgan Thomas finished with an 84 for a 164 total and 11th place.

Cal Poly followed Monday's four-person 332 total with a 299 Tuesday for a 631 total, finishing 20 strokes behind team champion Santa Clara. Northern Colorado placed third with a 650 total.

Cal Poly also entered three individuals. Laura Howard finished tied for eighth place with rounds of 80 and 82 for a 162 total while Sorelle Sedej placed 19th with an 87 and 84 for a 171 total. Giovanna Ascolani finished 20th with a 95 and 79 for a 174 total.

Individual champion was Taylor Camany of Santa Clara, who posted a 75 and 74 to edge Balbina Guajardo, also of Santa Clara, by one stroke. Carleigh Silvers of Northern Colorado was another two strokes back in third place.

Howard finished second in par-3 scoring at even par while Adell was fifth in par-4 scoring at eight over and second in par-5 scoring at one over. Thomas was second in birdies with four and Adell was third with her 23 pars.

Cal Poly will host the Lamkin Grip Challenge on Nov. 7-8 at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.
