Cal Poly Women's Golf Fifth After First Round of Folino Invitational

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. -- Cal Poly, led by Taylor Yoshitake, is fifth after the first of three rounds of play Sunday in the Folino Invitational women's golf tournament hosted by Cal State Fullerton at the Industry Hills Golf Course at Pacific Palms Resort.

Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs carded a four-person 315 total on the 6,088-yard, par-71 Zaharias Course. Gonzaga leads the way with a 301 total, followed by Cal State Fullerton at 304 and Long Beach State and Montana, tied for third with 311 totals. There are 12 teams in the field.

Cal Poly's top score was a 76 by Yoshitake (pictured at right), good for an 11th-place tie. Asia Adell and Morgan Thomas each carded 77s and are tied for 14th place while Kirsten Locke and Laura Howard both recorded 85s and are tied for 51st place.

Mustang Alex Phillips, competing as an individual, shot a 75 and is tied for third place.

Genavive Dodge of Gonzaga leads with a 73, with Tara Green of Montana one stroke back. Phillips is tied for third with Taylor Fowler of Cal State Fullerton, Monica Villareal of Long Beach State, Tai Jade Kliebphipat of Gonzaga, Anna SellenRunefjell of South Alabama, Brittani Ferraro of UC Riverside and Olivia Weber of Montana, all at 74.

Second round is scheduled for Monday morning.
