Cal Poly Women's Golf Finishes Second in Marsh Landing Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The Cal Poly women's golf team carded a final-round 299 and finished second among 10 teams competing in the Marsh Landing Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the March Landing Country Club.

The Mustangs' 299 total was the best of the day , equalled the best of the season for Cal Poly and is seventh on Cal Poly's all-time list for a four-person total.

Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs carded rounds of 298 and 310 on Monday on the 6,014-yard, par-72 course and finished with a 907 total for three rounds, 13 strokes behind team champion Stetson. Cincinnati was third with a 911 total.

Cal Poly's top finisher was Taylor Yoshitake (pictured at right) as she followed her 76 and 77 on Monday with a 74 Tuesday for an 11-over-par 227 total and a sixth-place tie.

Asia Adell also carded a 74 Tuesday for a 228 total and a tie for eighth place while Caitlin Farley checked in with a 77 for a 228 total as well, finishing tied for eighth. Mustang Morgan Thomas rounded out Cal Poly's scoring with a final-round 74 for a 232 total, tied for 18th place.

 Kirsten Locke, who recorded rounds of 70 and 80 on Monday -- her opening-round score tying a school record accomplished eight times previously -- posted an 84 Tuesday for a 234 total and a tie for 22nd place.

Individual winner was Alex Buelow of Stetson with a final-round 77 and a one-over-par 217 total, followed by Jenna Birch of Armstrong Atlantic State with a 70 for a 219 total and Andrea Malek of Cincinnati with a 77 for a 222 total.

Cal Poly returns to action April 22-24 by hosting the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship at the San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club.
