Cal Poly Tied for Second Place in Battle at the Rock


RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Desiree Gillaspy posted rounds of 72 and 74 and is two strokes off the lead in second place as the Cal Poly women's golf team trails leader Hawai'i by five shots after two rounds of play in the Battle at the Rock on Monday at the Oak Quarry Golf Club.

Gillaspy (pictured above) is second with her 146 total on the 6,079-yard, par-72 course, carding a pair of birdies and four bogeys on the day. Martina Edberg and Pauline Welker, both of Cal State Fullerton, also own 146 totals and are two shots behind second-round leader Sofia Anokhina of Northern Arizona.

Mustang teammates Sophie Berglund (77-76) and Mallory Muehlbauer (74-79) are tied for 19th place with 153 totals while Jamie Binns and Jamie Harada share 36th place with 156 totals heading into Tuesday's final round at 8 a.m. Binns posted an 80 and 76 while Harada carded an 81 and 75.

As a team, Cal Poly posted a four-person 604 with a 303 in the morning and 301 in the afternoon. Hawai'i leads at 599. Eight shots behind the Mustangs is Northern Arizona and six other teams are within five strokes of the Lumberjacks.

Kristen Lee of Santa Clara, last year's individual winner, is tied for 43rd at 158. The Broncos claimed the team title in 2016.
