BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — CSU Bakersfield overcame a 12-7 deficit with three consecutive technical falls and went on to defeat Cal Poly 28-15 in a Pac-12 Conference dual wrestling meet Wednesday night inside the Icardo Center.

Coleman Hammond, Lorenzo De La Riva and Bryan Battisto posted scores of 15 or more points for five team points apiece and No. 14 Matt Williams scored a fall in the final bout as the Runners won the dual going away, improving to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in Pac-12 matches.

Cal Poly fell to 0-6 and 0-2.

Spencer Empey's 7-2 decision at 285 pounds put Cal Poly on the scoreboard first as the Mustang heavyweight (pictured above) scored reversals in the first two periods and a takedown plus riding time in the final period.

Cal Poly's other wins were posted by Colton Schilling at 141, Joshy Cortez at 149 and Matt Wilhelm at 184.

Schilling registered his eighth fall of the season, needing just 2 minutes, 36 seconds to give Cal Poly a 9-7 lead. Schilling is now 11-5 for the year.

An 8-2 decision by Cortez extended the Mustangs' advantage to 12-7. Cortez, now 10-9 on the season, notched a first-period takedown and an escape in the second period for a 5-1 lead. He closed out the match with a third-period takedown plus riding time.

After surrendering the trio of technical falls, Cal Poly trailed 22-12 when Wilhelm stepped onto the mat and the Mustangs needed bonus points from the sophomore 184-pounder to maintain any hope of a team victory. Wilhelm won his match 9-5 to improve to 13-6, but the Mustangs trailed 22-15 with one bout to go and could not mathematically catch the Runners.

Wilhelm earned a takedown in the first period, led 5-3 after an escape and takedown in the second period and snapped a 5-5 tie with an escape, takedown and riding time in the final period.

Tom Lane, ranked No. 23 this week, faced the No. 14-ranked Williams in the final bout and Williams improved to 26-5 for the season with a fall in 6:03.
