CORVALLIS, Oregon — A fall, one technical fall and three major decisions lifted Oregon State to a 34-11 victory over Cal Poly in a Pac-12 Conference dual wrestling meet Saturday night inside Gill Coliseum.
Cal Poly opened the dual meet with an overtime fall by Joshy Cortez at 149 pounds, but Oregon State won eight of the nine remaining bouts to improve to 4-5 on the year.
Cal Poly fell to 0-7.
Cortez is now 11-9 for the season with a four-match winning streak after his pin against Josh Reyes. The match was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation as each wrestler earned an escape. Cortez notched a takedown and pinned Reyes in 7 minutes, 46 seconds.
Cal Poly's only other win was a technical fall by Matt Wilhelm (pictured above) at 174.
Wilhelm, who is 14-6 on the year and has won six straight matches, earned a 16-1 triumph, closing out the match with 42 seconds remaining in the third period via a takedown. He also notched a pair of four-point near falls.
