SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Yoshito Funakoshi, Brawley Lamer and Tom Lane earned decisions as the Cal Poly wrestling team opened its third dual meet season under head coach Jon Sioredas with a 28-10 loss to Cal Baptist on Saturday inside Mott Athletics Center.
Tied 2-2 after the first period, Funakoshi rode out Adam Velasquez in the second period and scored an escape, takedown and riding time for a 6-2 decision at 133 pounds.
Lamer outscored John Johnson 13-9 with three takedowns, a reversal, an escape and, with the match tied 9-9, a four-point near-fall for the triumph at 157 pounds.
Lane (pictured above), ranked 14th in the nation by trackwrestling.com, earned a 15-5 major decision over Frank Wyshinski at 197 pounds, scorring four takedowns, two escapes, a pair of two-point near falls and riding time.
Cal Baptist tallied one fall, four major decisions and a pair of decisions to secure the dual meet victory.
Cal Poly returns to action Nov. 18 at a tournament hosted by Army West Point.
