Cal Poly Women's Soccer Welcomes Three More Recruits to 2017 Class

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's soccer team has added three student-athletes to its 2017 recruiting class. The Mustangs will welcome Elle Gallmann, Molly Monroe and Sydney Spina in the fall, joining February's five National Letter of Intent signees. Get to know each of the trio below:

Elle Gallmann, D/M, 5-10, Los Gatos, CA (Leigh HS / De Anza Force SC)

Gallmann helped lead the Longhorns to three straight Blossom Valley Athletic League championships, as well as the Central Coast Section Division 2 final in 2015. Altogether since 2013-14, her squad went a combined 53-9-10, including 37-3-9 in BVAL play.

She also led her club to the Northwest California title in 2015, following a 2014 that included championships at both the Eagles Summer Classic and Adidas Force Tournament (plus a finals run at the Nike Mustang Stampede Tournament).

A California All-Academic honors student, Gallmann will major in Architecture at Cal Poly.

Molly Monroe, GK, 5-8, Sammamish, WA (Skyline HS / Eastside FC)

Monroe anchored the Spartans to three consecutive 4A KingCo. League championships from 2013-15 (including two trips to the semifinals of the state tournament), and allowed only three goals in 16 games as a junior. She also assisted on a goal in 2015-16.

Skyline went 55-9-9 overall in her career (including 32-2-4 in league play), finishing ranked in the top six in Washington each year.

She also helped her club from Preston to three consecutive state titles from 2014-16, as well as Region IV championships in 2013 and 2016. Combined during that time, her club went 130-24-29, with 107 shutouts.

In 2013, Monroe also was a top-10 finalist for the U.S. Youth Soccer Save of the Year award.

In addition to being an honors student and Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, she's also an Athletic Liaison ASB Officer, an Athletes for Kids mentor and has participated in the Strong for Sam Club devoted to pediatric cancer research. Monroe, whose parents are both Cal Poly alumni, will major in Kinesiology.

Sydney Spina, F, 5-4, Novato, CA (Novato HS / Marin FC)

Spina scored 13 goals for the Hornets as a junior and senior, ranking in the Top 5 in the Marin County League both seasons.

She had 47 goals and 11 assists in her four-year varsity career, which included three consecutive North Coast Section Division 2 playoffs.

Spina also led her club to first place at the 2015 IberCup in Portugal, along with a national ranking of No. 15 and a state ranking of No. 7. Novato's Team MVP and an All-NCS selection from 2014-16, Spina also played basketball.

Spina, an honor roll student who has also interned for Early Childhood Special Education, will major in Kinesiology at Cal Poly.
