LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Junior Alexa Lee and sophomore Jennifer Cornea helped the Cal Poly women's tennis program open the 2011-12 campaign in victorious fashion on Saturday morning as the doubles tandem produced an 8-2 victory against Air Force's Melissa Cecil and Tahlia Smoke during the pre-qualifying draw at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships, hosted by UCLA.
Also competing in the pre-qualifying singles draw, Lee (above), however, was eliminated from contention with a 6-3, 6-2 loss against Georgia's Lauren Herring. Herring entered the match as the nation's seventh-ranked freshman.
Lee and Cornea will continue action on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Clemson's Monica Kochanova and Kiara Vsykocilova. A victory advances the duo to Tuesday's qualifying draw at Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades.
