Cal Poly Duo Captures Doubles Title at Saint Mary’s Invitational

MORAGA, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's tennis doubles tandem of junior Ane McPike and freshman Sophia Bott captured the White bracket consolation championship on Sunday at the Saint Mary's Invitational while freshman Louise Oxnevad reached the championship match of the Red Singles consolation bracket.

McPike (right) and Bott highlighted Cal Poly's doubles efforts at the three-day invitational by topping Ellie Edles and Tiffany Pham of UC Davis, 8-6, for their consolation crown.

Oxnevad opened play on Sunday by posting a 7-6 (4), 6-4 semifinal victory against 88th-ranked Catherine Isip of Saint Mary's. Oxnevad, however, dropped a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8) decision against Washington's Grace Ysidora in the final.

In the remaining singles match involving Cal Poly on Sunday, Gonzaga's Alexandra Tallas bested Mustang freshman Haley Kepler in the quarterfinal phase of the Blue bracket, 6-4, 6-0.

During Cal Poly's other doubles matches, fellow freshman Ana Klavins and Kepler defeated Gonzaga's Isabell Klingert and Samantha Polayes in Blue bracket round robin play, 8-1, while juniors Gabrielle Gatewood and Kathryn Webb fell against Washington's Capucine Gregoire and Elian Douglas Miron, 8-5.

Cal Poly continues its fall slate Oct. 19-22 at the Stanford-hosted ITA Northwest Regional Championship.
