Mustang Women’s Tennis Team Edged by Pacific, 4-3

STOCKTON, Calif. – Freshman Louise Oxnevad prevailed in both singles and doubles action on Sunday against Pacific, but the Cal Poly women's tennis program – after earning the doubles point – produced victories in just two of four singles matches and fell against the Tigers at Hal Nelson Tennis Courts, 4-3.

Oxnevad opened her day at the No. 1 doubles position, teaming with junior Alexa Lee to produce an 8-6 triumph versus Iveta Masarova and Regina Suarez. Cal Poly then finalized the doubles point at No. 2 with juniors Jen Cornea and Ane McPike topping Hana Ritterova and Christiana Ferrari, 8-5. At No. 3, Pacific's Susan Te and Gergana Boncheva slid past Mustang juniors Gabby Gatewood and Kathryn Webb, 8-5.

Oxnevad returned in singles action to rally for a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 victory against Ritterova at the No. 2 slot. Cal Poly's other singles victory came at No. 4, where Webb rolled past Boncheva, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 1, Pacific's Masarova bested Cornea (6-1, 6-1) while Te recovered to post a 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 win against Lee at No. 4. Ferrari snatched a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) win against McPike at No. 5 while Pacific finalized the win at No. 6 as Suarez posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision versus Mustang freshman Anna Klavins.

Cal Poly (2-9, 0-4) opens a three-match home stand against Furman on Wednesday, March 6. Match time on Mustang Courts is set for 1:30 p.m.
