Mustang Women’s Tennis Swept by Furman in Shortened Match, 6-0

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Senior Alexa Lee and juniors Jen Cornea and Ane McPike (right) each produced set victories on Wednesday afternoon, but the Cal Poly women's tennis program opened a three-match home stand by dropping a 6-0 decison against Furman in a contest shortened by inclement weather.

In singles action on Mustang Courts, Cal Poly freshman Louise Oxnevad was bested at the No. 1 position by Furman's Lauren Kline, 7-6, 6-4. At No. 2, Cornea recovered to square her match against Katherine Oudin before falling, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Lee also dealt Alex Moreno-Kaste a second-set blow before faltering at No. 3, 6-2, 0-6, 6-1. Cal Poly junior Katherine Webb lost a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 4 against Michele Stanford while at No. 5, McPike posted an opening-set victory before falling, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Margaret Boyette rounded off Furman's win at No. 6 by topping Mustang freshman Anna Klavins, 6-2, 6-1.

With the start time for Wednesday's match moved back to 3 p.m. due to precipitation, the doubles competition was cancelled.

Cal Poly (2-10) returns to Big West Conference action when hosting Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, March 9 at 12 noon.
