FRESNO, Calif. – Seniors Ane McPike and Kathryn Webb both prevailed in singles action Saturday to highlight the Cal Poly women's tennis team's second-day matches at the Fresno State-hosted Bulldog Classic.
McPike posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Fresno Pacific's Megan Lee in Flight E play while Webb triumphed against Idaho's Rita Bermudez in Flight C&D action. The other Mustang with a singles decision was junior Bryn Bacharach after Fresno Pacific's Angelika Sabieka retired through injury.
In other singles matches involving Mustangs, junior Mika Padmanabhan was bested in Flight C&D play by Fresno State's Anne Susdorf while freshmen Sayaka Tsugai and Chanel Scudiero both fell in Flight F action against, respectively, Fresno State's Claire Yang (6-2, 6-2) and Idaho's Bety Flores (6-1, 6-4). Completing Cal Poly's singles efforts was sophomore Anna Klavins, who dropped a 6-1, 7-6(11) decision against Oregon's Lena Macomson.
In doubles play, Bacharach and Padmanabhan topped Portland State's Megan Govi and Marina Todd in Flight A, 8-1. Also in Flight A, senior Jen Cornea and McPike dropped an 8-7 match against Idaho's Vicky Lozano and Almudena Sanz. In Flight B, Mustang sophomore Haley Kepler and Tsugai fell versus Fresno State's Anne Susdorf and Tanya Murtagh, 8-7(5), and, the doubles tandem of Idaho's Lozano and Portland State's Alexa McDonald, 8-4. Also in Flight B, Klavins and Scudiero dropped an 8-3 match versus Susdorf and Murtagh
