BERKELEY, Calif. – Senior Kathryn Webb (right), junior Bryn Bacharach and freshman Emily Gibbens each prevailed in singles action on Sunday as the Cal Poly women's tennis program completed preparations for its 16-match dual schedule at the California Winter Invitational.
Hosted by the eighth-ranked Golden Bears and a competition that comprises a round-robin format, Cal Poly competed in singles against No. 56 Fresno State with Webb topping Anneka Watts (6-3, 6-2), Bacharach besting Tanya Murtagh (7-6 (4), 6-3, 1-0 (4)) and Gibbens outdueling Aishwarya Agrawal (6-0, 6-2).
In other singles matches involving Cal Poly, senior Jen Cornea fell against Fresno State's Sophie Watts (6-2, 6-1), senior Ane McPike was on the downside versus Claire Yang (6-3, 6-2), junior Mika Padmanabhan dropped her match against Anne Susdorf (6-3, 7-6 (0)) and freshman Zoe Oedekerk was bested by Sofya Malysheva (7-5, 6-1).
In doubles action versus No. 37 Saint Mary's, Cornea and McPike produced Cal Poly's lone victory with a 7-5 triumph versus Jenny Jullien and Parminder Kaur. Webb and Mustang freshman Sayaka Tsugai fell against Jade Frampton and Liz Searl (6-4) while Gibbens and Oedekerk dropped a 6-0 decision against Danielle Flores and Jamie Pawid
