Four Mustangs Advance at Fresno State-Hosted Bulldog Classic

FRESNO – Four different Cal Poly women's tennis players advanced in singles and doubles play on Friday as the Mustangs opened their final fall tournament of 2014 at the Fresno State-hosted Bulldog Classic.

In the B Flight singles bracket, two Mustangs – juniors Danè Joubert and Bryn Bacharach – moved into the quarterfinal round after their respective opponents withdrew through injury.

In C Flight singles play, junior Anna Klavins fell in her round of 16 match to Sacramento State's Analyssa Tallas, 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles action and in the A Flight round of 16, freshman Abby Bacharach and Klavins teamed to drop an 8-3 matchup to Oregon's Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita while Bryn Bacharach – competing with Joubert – fell by the same score to Fresno State's Anneka Watts and Rana Sherif Ahmed.

Returning in the consolation phase, Bryn Bacharach and Joubert stayed in contention with an 8-2 triumph against Portland State's Alexa McDonald and Ayaka Terakawa. Abby Bacharach and Klavins, however, were eliminated from contention with an 8-3 defeat to Pacific's Christiana Ferrari and Francis Dean.

Cal Poly continues play at the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday morning.
