SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly women's tennis team had a successful weekend in singles play, as freshman Claire Bouquet made it to the quarterfinals and junior Abby Bacharach made it to the semi-finals at the St. Mary's Fall Invitational this weekend.

"The team is making exciting strides and had some really good wins," said head coach Kathrin Winterhalter. "We still have our work cut out for us but there is definitely great improvements happening for this program.
The invitational started on Friday, where the Mustangs fought but could not hold on in doubles play, as sophomore Ilana Oleynik and freshman Susanne Boyden fell to San Jose State's Marine Dans and Miyo Kobayashi 8-6 in the round of 16.
The doubles tandem of Baracharch and sophomore Celine Gruaz fell to Santa Clara's Giannina Ong and Caraline Patterson 8-6.
Bouquet teamed up with Pacific's Sabrina Rodriguez in doubles play and defeated Santa Clara's Madison Clarke and Elizabeth Stephens 8-7(5), advancing them to the quarterfinal, where they beat Sacramento State's Carolina Chernyetsky and Sofia Wicker 8-7(4).
Bacharach had a dominating weekend in singles play, as she made it all the way to the semifinals. Bacharach defeated Pacific's Sabrina Rodriguez 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 32 and then went on to beat Amber Del Rosario 7-5, 1-6, 6-2. San Jose State's Culibrk ended Bacharach's streak, as she beat her 6-1, 6-4.
Bouquet also had a good weekend in singles play, as she started off beating Ong in a three set match 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 32. Bouquet then went on to beat UC Davis' Kamila Kecki 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(7), advancing her to the quarterfinals where she was defeated by Culibrk 6-3, 6-4.
Gruaz was defeated in singles play by UC Davis' Samantha Martino 6-3, 6-2, while senior Louise Oxnevad was beat by Stanford's Naomie Rosenberg 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the round of 32 in their flight.
Oleynik fell to Cal's Maria Smith 6-2,6-2, but made a comeback in her extra matches, beating Pacific's Christina Ruiz 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. Oleynik pushed Cal's Stephanie Lin to three sets and forced a tie breaker but fell 6-0, 3-6, 10-6.
Boyden lost to St. Mary's Jana McCord 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 32 in her flight.
Despite Boyden's loss, she came back in round robin play and picked up three wins against opponents from Pacific, San Jose State and Cal.
The Mustangs will be back in action starting Friday Oct. 21 to participate in the ITA Regional.
