SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly women's tennis team wrapped up its final match of the fall season this weekend at the CSUN Fall Invitational.
"Overall, we keep improving and we will take the experience from this weekend and get back to work as we go into the final practice phase before our season starts," said head coach Winterhalter.
The tournament started off on Friday in doubles play, where the doubles tandem of Bacharach and Saltzen fought hard but fell to Utah State's Nini Guensler and Maggie O'Meara 8-4 in their flight.
Following doubles play, all three Mustangs competed in singles play on Friday. Newcomer Saltzen pushed CSUN's Mickey Hsu to three sets, where she came out with a win 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in her flight.
In the same flight, Oxnevad fell to Guensler 6-3, 6-1, while Bacharach fell to O'Meara in her flight 6-3, 6-4.
Saturday started with doubles play, where Bacharach and Saltzen took on Cal State Fullerton's Masako Makiba and Luxizi, the doubles tandem played a strong match but fell 8-6.
Oxnevad took on CSUN's Kiryang Kim in singles play, but the match was retired at 5-7, 1-0 due to injury.
Saltzen was defeated by Utah State's Van De Vondel 6-2, 6-1 in her flight, while Bacharach was defeated by CSUN's Kristen Poei 6-2, 6-4 in her flight.
Bacharach turned things around after her first match, as she went into her second match against CSUN's Elisaveta Nosenko, easily beating her 6-2, 6-2.
The doubles tandem showed a steady progression throughout the weekend in doubles play, with Sunday being their best match. Bacharach and Saltzen forced UC Riverside's Karla Dulay and Sara Khattab to a tie-breaker but fell in the end, 9-8(4).
Saltzen was beat by LBSU's Maren Helgo in singles play 7-5, 6-3 while Bacharach was beat by Cal State Los Angles' Kayleigh Hall 6-1, 6-1.
The Mustangs will start dual play in Jan. at the Cal Winter Invitational.
