SAN LUIS OBISPO --The Cal Poly women's tennis team battled against CSUN, as the match came down to the last point but the Mustangs fell 4-3 in their first conference match of the season Sunday afternoon.
After a delay due to rain, the Mustangs started the morning off in doubles play where Seriana Saltzen and Molly Reed were beat by Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei 6-1 on court one while Sayaka Tsugai and Louise Oxnevad were defeated by Vivian Lin and Kiryang Kim 6-1 on court three.
Down 1-0 after doubles play, the Mustangs turned things around in singles play, as the Mustangs stayed neck and neck with CSUN. Reed quickly tied up the score after she easily beat Lin 6-0, 6-1 on court five.
Susanne Boyden gave the Mustangs the lead after she beat Kiryang on court one, advancing her to 5-0 in singles play this the season.
Tsugai was beat by Poei on court six 6-1, 6-2, tying the score back up, 2-2.
Saltzen picked up another win for the Mustangs, as she beat Skyla Alcon on court three 6-3, 6-4
Oxnevad put up a fight against Hsu, but fell on court two 7-5, 6-4, leaving it up to court four to determine the match.
Abby Bacharach put up a fight against Emma Roenholt. The Mustang won her first set and came up short in her second, forcing a third set.
Down 5-1, Bacharach put two more points on the board to make it 5-3, but then ended up falling 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
The Mustangs are 0-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Cal Poly will be back on the courts on March 4 to take on UC Davis on the road.
