SACRAMENTO – The Cal Poly women's tennis team picked up its second win of the week on Thursday afternoon, as it beat Sacramento State 4-3 in Sacramento, Calif.
The Mustangs started the match off on a strong note, as they put the first point on the board after clinching the doubles point.
Susanne Boyden and Abby Bacharach fell on court two to Karina Vyrlan and Andie Mouzes 6-1, leaving it up to Seriana Saltzen and Molly Reed to clinch the doubles point, the second time this week the doubles point was left up to court one.
Saltzen and Reed beat Ana Loaiza Esquivias and Sofia Gulnova 6-2, giving the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage.
Cal Poly kept the momentum going in singles play, as Celine Gruaz quickly beat Chernyetsky 6-1, 6-2 on court five, making it 2-0.
Abby Bacharach took on Gulnova on court six where she fell 6-2, 7-5, putting the Hornets' first point on the board.
Molly Reed took on Wicker on court four, where she beat her 6-4, 6-2, giving the Mustangs a 3-1 lead.
Saltzen fought Vyrlan on court two, winning her first set but couldn't hold on, as she fell 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Oxnevad took Mouzes to a tiebreaker in both sets and came out with a win, 7-6(2), 7-6(7), clinching the match for the Mustangs.
Susanne Boyden took on Loaiza Esquivias on court one, winning her first set but falling in her second and third 2-6, 7-6(4), 7-5.
The Mustangs are now 2-11 on the season and will be back on the courts on Saturday April 8 and Sunday April to continue their conference play, as they host UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton.
