INDIAN WELLS – The seventh seeded Cal Poly women's tennis team ended its season with a 4-0 loss against second seeded UC Santa Barbara at the Big West Conference Tournament in Indian Wells, Calif. on Friday.
Susanne Boyden and Abby Bacharach fell to Stephanie Yamada and Natalie Da Silveira on court two 6-4, clinching the doubles point for the Gauchos.
Down 1-0, Cal Poly put up a fight in singles play, but couldn't hold on. Bacharach was beat by Ami Lev-Ari on court six 6-0, 6-3, while Saltzen was beat by Jaimee Gilbertson on court three 6-4, 6-4.
Celine Gruaz took on Melissa Baker on court five, where she came out stronger in her second set, but fell 6-0, 7-5, clinching the match for UCSB.
"We had some opportunities at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but they played really well at the right times," said head coach Kathrin Winterhalter. "I'm proud of how the team fought today. They are a good team and we will learn from this."
The Mustangs end their 2017 season 4-15 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
