Cal Poly Women’s Tennis Falls to LMU in First Dual Match of the Season

LOS ANGELES— Competing in its first dual match of the 2018 season, the Cal Poly women's tennis team picked up two wins in singles play and one win in doubles but fell to Loyola Marymount 5-2 on Sunday.

Senior Molly Reed defeated LMU's Anna Romeka in the No. 4 position 7-5, 5-0 before Romeka retired. Junior Celine Gruaz defeated Yesica De Lucas 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 1-0 (13-11) in the No. 6 spot.

Playing in the No. 2 spot, Mustang freshman MacKenzie Worsnop battled tough against LMU's No. 2 Eva Marie Voracek, who is ranked #107 in the country, but lost 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles play, the duo of freshman Grace Olyphant and junior Caroline Williams beat Camila Tumosa and Yesica De Lucas 6-2 at the No. 3 spot but the Mustangs would lose the other two doubles matches.

Cal Poly falls to 0-1 on the season while the Lions improved to 1-1.

The Mustangs return home for two dual matches at the Mustang Tennis Complex this weekend. They host Nevada on Friday, February 2 at 11 a.m. and San Francisco Sunday, February 4 at 10 a.m.
