Cal Poly Women’s Tennis Drops Dual Match Against Hawai’i

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After beating Eastern Washington in Fresno on Monday, the Cal Poly women's tennis team returned home Wednesday to resume conference play against Hawai'i. The Mustangs (4-10, 0-3) fell to the Rainbow Wahine (7-6, 3-2) 7-0 at Mustang Tennis Courts.

Hawai'i took the doubles point after a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position and 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot. The No. 3 doubles match of senior Molly Reed and sophomore Susanne Boyden (pictured above) was 3-5 when it ended.

The Mustangs fought hard in each of its singles matches. At the No. 2 spot, Boyden took Nikola Dolakova to three sets after dropping the first. She kept it close but ultimately fell 6-1, 5-7, 10-8. Junior Caroline Williams also forced a third set after dropping the first, winning the second 7-6 (10) before dropping the third 10-5.

Hawai'i would win the rest of the singles matches to take the match 7-0.

Cal Poly continues Big West play Friday when it hosts Long Beach State at noon from Mustang Tennis Courts.

The 49ers are 7-6 and 2-1 in conference this season. They have won four of their last five matches. From 2011-2015 they won the Big West Championship each year. They have finished tied for third the past two seasons.
