Cal Poly Women’s Tennis Completes Day One at Cal Winter Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team wrapped up day one of the Cal Winter Invitational Friday in Berkeley, its first matches of the 2019 spring schedule, a tournament which also features the Golden Bears, Fresno State and Saint Mary's.

Rain did affect some of the day's matches as the Mustangs' singles matches against the Gaels were cancelled due to the weather.

However, Cal Poly did face Fresno State for three doubles matches on day one. Juniors Caroline Williams (pictured) and Claire Bouquet paired to take down the Bulldogs' A.C. Hummel and Jane Ellis 6-2 for its first win of the day.

Elsewhere, freshman Kim Bhunu and junior transfer Emily Louie-Meadors fell in a close contest to Ella Husrefovic and Jennifer Timotin 6-4 and sophomore Grace Olyphant and freshman Emily Ackerman lost to Georgia Lawson and Deniza Marcinkevica 6-2.

Cal Poly resumes play Saturday for day two at 10 a.m. starting with singles matches against Cal from Hellman Tennis Complex. Following those matches they will then face Saint Mary's in doubles matches.
