Boyden Wins Fourth Straight Match in 4-3 Loss at Fresno State Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. — Junior Susanne Boyden won her fourth straight singles match and also won her doubles match as the Cal Poly women's tennis fell on the road to Fresno State Saturday 4-3 in its final non-conference match of the season.

The Bulldogs (8-9) took the doubles point over the Mustangs (6-9, 2-3 BWC) after wins on courts one and three. However, at the No. 2 position, Boyden and Grace Olyphant improved their record together to a team-best 6-3 after a 6-3 win.

After Fresno State went up 2-0 once singles got underway, junior Emily Louie-Meadors picked up Cal Poly's first point with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles. With the win, she improved her record to 8-4 this season, tied with Boyden for the most wins on the team.

Later, with the Bulldogs up 3-1, sophomore MacKenzie Worsnop won her match at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 7-6 to improve her record to 5-6 on the season.

Fresno State then clinched the match with a close three-set win at No. 5 singles. Boyden then picked up her eighth win of the season after her opponent was forced to retire due to injury while the score was tied 5-5 in the third set.

Cal Poly returns home for its final two home matches of the season next weekend, both against Big West opponents. The Mustangs will face Cal State Fullerton Saturday, April 13 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a match against UC Irvine Sunday at 11 a.m.
