SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly volleyball team will be back on the road for its fourth straight week to participate in the Sacramento State Invitational this weekend.
The Mustangs will be going into the tournament with a 4-4 record on the season, as they were recently defeated by No. 20 Purdue and No. 9 Stanford at the Stanford Invitational.
Sophomore Alexis Clewis has already made her mark this season, as she boasted 17 kills against Stanford, setting her record high. Clewis is now the second leader in kills on the team with 101, right after sophomore Adlee Van Winden who has 108.
Junior Taylor Nelson has compiled 345 assists this season, giving her an average 10.78 assists per set.
Sophomore Katherine Brouker leads the team in digs, with 122 on the season.
The Mustangs will go up against Grand Canyon on Friday Sept. 16 at 4:30 p.m and then will be back on the court on Saturday to take on Nevada at 10 a.m. and Sacramento State at 7:30 p.m.
This will be the first time the Mustangs meet with Grand Canyon but the 13th time they have met with Nevada since 1988 and the 16th time they have met with Sacramento State since 1991. The Mustangs lead Nevada 8-5 and Sacramento State 10-6.
This weekend will mark the last game of non-conference play, as the following weekend Cal Poly will take on No. 15 Hawai'i in their first home match of the season.
