Cal Poly Volleyball Hosts No. 14 Hawai'i in First Home Match of Season

SAN LUIS OBISPO – After four straight weeks on the road, the Mustangs will host No. 14 Hawai'i in their much-anticipated first home match of the season in Mott Athletics Center on Saturday.    

This weekend's match against Hawai'i will kick off conference play for both teams. After going 3-0 at the Sacramento State invitational last weekend, the Mustangs are 7-4 on the season, which ties them with Hawai'i's 7-4 record.

After leading the team in kills during the Sacramento State Invitational, senior Taylor Gruenewald (35) and junior Raeann Greisen (42) have joined sophomores Adlee Van Winden and Alexis Clewis in boasting triple digits. 

Van Winden leads the team with 149 total kills, followed by Greisen with 130, Clewis with 128 and Gruenewald with 101.

Gruenewald also leads the team in blocks with a total of 28, followed by Greisen who has 23.

Taylor Nelson set her season high of 59 assists against Nevada, adding to her overall of 483.

Sophomore Katherine Brouker leads the team in digs with 169. 

The Mustangs met with Hawai'i for the first time in 1980. Since then, the teams have met 41 times. Cal Poly holds a 4-37 record against the ranked team. 

The last time the Mustangs beat Hawai'i was in 2006 in a five-set match, Cal Poly beat the then No. 12 team 3-2. 

The first serve will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 24 in Mott Athletics Center.
