SAN LUIS OBIPSO – The Cal Poly volleyball team will be hosting UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton this weekend in Mott Athletics Center.
After beating UC Irvine 3-1 and UC Davis 3-2 last weekend, the Mustangs advanced to 15-8 overall and 8-4 in conference play, putting them in third place in the Big West Conference.
Several Mustangs made waves this past weekend, including sophomore Katherine Brouker, who was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week and junior Taylor Nelson, who was named the Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student Athlete of the Week.
Brouker set her career high in digs against UC Irvine with 26, and then tied her second career high on Saturday against UC Davis with 24. The libero is first in the conference for conference digs with 202, and fourth in the conference for overall digs with 371.
Nelson's 1012 overall assists and 529 conference assists have landed her in the first place spots for conference and overall assists. The setter is ranked No. 5 by the NCAA and is currently sixth in Cal Poly history for career sets.
Junior Raeann Greisen sits at the No. 2 spot in conference kills with 175 (3.98) and at the No. 6 spot in overall kills with 305. Sophomore Adlee Van Winden is fourth in conference kills with 172 (3.91) and overall kills with 321 (3.69).
Only two other Mustangs boast triple digit kills this season, including senior Taylor Gruenewald with 210 and sophomore Alexis Clewis with 228, giving the Mustangs an overall tally of 1238, putting them in the first place spot for kills in the conference.
After recently sweeping both UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton this season, the Mustangs are looking to build on their back-to-back wins.
The sweeps advanced Cal Poly's winning record over both teams to 51-10 over the Titans 51-10 and 23-8 over the Highlanders.
Cal Poly will take on UC Riverside Friday Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. and then Cal State Fullerton Saturday Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in Mott Athletics Center.
