Cal Poly Volleyball Ranked No. 23 in Preseason AVCA Coaches Poll

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — For the second straight season, the Cal Poly volleyball program is ranked in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason Top 25 Poll. The Mustangs will begin the season ranked No. 23 in the nation.

23 is one spot higher than Cal Poly was ranked in last year's AVCA Preseason Top 25 Poll. It is the first time since 2007-08 that the Mustangs have been ranked in the preseason poll in back-to-back seasons.

After going 25-3 last season, winning the Big West for the second straight year, and going to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament, the Mustangs ended the season ranked No. 22 in the final AVCA Top 25 Poll. They remained in the Top 25 all of last year and at one point during the season they were ranked as high as No. 11.

Cal Poly will play two matches in its non-conference schedule against opponents that are ranked in the Preseason Top 25. They will open their season August 30 against Kentucky, who is ranked No. 7, at the University of Utah Tournament, and will take on No. 12 Pittsburgh on September 13 in Malibu at the Pepperdine Asics Classic.

The Mustangs will also face four opponents who were in the 'other receiving votes' category of the Preseason Top 25. Those include Utah, Colorado State, Pepperdine, and Big West foe Hawai'i.

The Mustangs will host the Rainbow Wahine at Mott Athletics Center October 11 and in Honolulu on November 3.
