
Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Defeats Concordia, Irvine Valley on Saturday

 IRVINE, Calif. – For the second time in three weeks, the Cal Poly beach volleyball team collected a pair of road victories on the same day after defeating Concordia, 3-2 and Irvine Valley, 5-0 on Saturday. With the wins, Cal Poly improves to 4-6 this season.
Three Cal Poly pairs earned two victories on Saturday, including the sophomore tandem of Taylor Nelson and Savannah Niemen, who played together from the first position for the first time this season.
 Cal Poly freshman Adlee Van Winden and sophomore Raeann Greisen also picked up a pair of victories on Saturday, as well as walk-on freshman Jacqui Martin and junior Anna Gorman, who improved to 3-3 from the third position.
 Against Concordia, Cal Poly took the first three pair matchups, with Nelson and Niemen defeating Rachel Flynn and Kaila Ames in straight sets, 21-14 and 21-15. Van Winden and Greisen used a two-set decision over Amber Rose and Marissa Boyd, 21-15 and 21-13, while Martin and Gorman downed Logan Grove and Maddy Deters, 21-17 and 22-20.
 Cal Poly overwhelmed host Irvine Valley College in the second matchup of the day, capturing the sweep victory. Nelson and Niemen outlasted Hailee Earnest and Emily Reinking in three sets, 21-17, 9-21 and 15-12, while Van Winden and Greisen beat Hannah Matt and Carlee Roethlisberger from the second position, 21-14 and 21-15.
 Gorman and Martin picked up a win over Kayla Scheevel and Olivia Aguilar at No. 3, 21-16 and 21-11 for the pair's second triumph of the day.
 The Cal Poly sophomore combination of Casey Carroll and Bailey Roach ousted Alyssa Blevins and JuJu Cannon from the fourth position, 21-15 and 22-20, while senior Megan Wagner and freshman Clare Holehouse managed a three-set comeback from No. 5, 18-21, 21-9 and 15-12 to complete the sweep victory.
Cal Poly is scheduled to play a trio of matches on Saturday, April 2 when visiting Santa Cruz. The Mustangs will battle Santa Clara at 9 a.m., San Francisco at 11 a.m. and CSUN at 1 p.m.
