SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Redshirt freshman Micah Grossman placed third in the men’s 8K race to highlight action for the Cal Poly cross country team at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday at Baylands Regional Park.
A total of five Mustangs competed in the final action of the regular season for the team, while five others ran unattached.
Grossman and junior Tyler Downs were the only men that ran in uniform at the meet for Cal Poly. Grossman set the tone by running a personal best 8K time of 23:53.0 to finish third. Downs took home a 17th-place finish with a PR as well (24:25.4).
Running unattached, true freshmen Liam Miller, Tyler Daillak and Miles Cook secured fourth, fifth and ninth respectively.
On the women’s side, sophomore Ella Echsner ran a personal best 6K time (21:26.9) to capture 24th, while redshirt junior Nina St. John took 58th (22:01.4). Running unattached, junior Mackenzie Hack finished 17th and freshman Avery Smith was 48th.
With the regular season now over, Cal Poly will shift all its focus to the Big West Championships on Friday, Oct. 31 at Queen Kapi'olani Regional Park in Honolulu, Hawai’i. Cal Poly is seeking to sweep the Big West men’s and women’s team titles for the fourth consecutive year — a feat no other team in the history of the conference has accomplished.
