SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Sophomore third baseman Jimmy Allen tripled, doubled and drove in three runs as Cal Poly scored 10 times in the first four innings and coasted to an 11-4 victory over CSU Bakersfield on Saturday night in Baggett Stadium.

Allen (pictured at right), who went 2-for-5, knocked in two runs with his first-inning triple, drove in another run with a second-inning groundout and doubled in the fourth to spark a four-run Mustang outburst, lifting his batting average for the season to .347.

With the victory, Cal Poly clinched its seventh weekend series win in 12 tries, improving to 29-19 for the season. The Mustangs are 10 games above the .500 mark for the second time this season, winning for the seventh time in their last nine games.

CSU Bakersfield fell to 19-25 with its fifth straight loss.

Senior southpaw Kyle Anderson (8-1) picked up his eighth win of the season, allowing four runs and eight hits over five-plus innings with three walks and five strikeouts.

Sophomore right-hander Chase Johnson pitched the final four innings in relief of Anderson for his seventh save. Johnson did not allow a run, a hit or a walk and struck out five, retiring the final 11 Roadrunner batters of the game.

The loss went to CSU Bakersfield right-hander Scott Brattvet (4-5), who surrendered five runs, four hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings.

Cal Poly outhit CSU Bakersfield 11-8, led by Allen, senior shortstop Mike Miller, junior second baseman Denver Chavez and sophomore left fielder Matt Russell, each with a pair of hits.

CSU Bakersfield was led offensively by first baseman Cael Brockmeyer with a triple and single and shortstop Tyler Shryock with a double and single. Right fielder Jordan Hein added a double.

Cal Poly, which scored all of its runs in Friday's 6-1 series-opening victory in the first five innings, tallied 10 runs in the first four innings Saturday.

Allen's two-run triple to left-center field and Alex Michael's RBI groundout staked Anderson and the Mustangs to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. Sophomore first baseman Tim Wise doubled for an RBI and Allen's run-scoring groundout gave Cal Poly a 5-0 advantage in the second frame.

Chavez singled to right-center field for a run in the third frame and Cal Poly exploded for four runs in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk to freshman right fielder Nick Torres, RBI singles by Russell and freshman first baseman Jordan Brower and a sacrifice fly by Chavez.

Trailing 10-0, CSU Bakersfield plated a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. A triple by Brockmeyer and a groundout by catcher Frank Martinez tallied two runs in the fifth inning and a single by Shryock and a groundout by second baseman Oscar Sanay accounted for the runs in the sixth frame.

Cal Poly added its final run in the bottom of the sixth as Chavez singled with two outs, stole second base and came home on Miller's single up the middle.

The Mustangs now lead the all-time series against the Roadrunners, 8-4. CSU Bakersfield swept Cal Poly in a three-game series ending the 2011 campaign at Hardt Field in Bakersfield.

The series finale will be played Sunday at 1 o'clock in Baggett Stadium. Junior right-hander Kyle Brueggemann (4-3, 4.78 ERA) will take the mound for Cal Poly on Mother's Day, facing CSU Bakersfield junior southpaw Jeff McKenzie (4-4, 2.44 ERA).
