Mustangs Making Their Mark in Summer Baseball League Play

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly infielder Ryan Drobny is hitting well over the .300 mark while catcher Chris Hoo has elevated his batting average 40 points over the last two weeks of summer baseball league play.
Drobny (pictured at right) sports a .319 mark for the Wenatchee AppleSox in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League with six doubles and a triple, driving in 13 runs.
Hoo has raised his batting average to .290 with two doubles and six RBI, playing for the Green Bay Bull Frogs in the Northwoods League.
Also playing for Green Bay is David Armendariz, who is hitting .277 with three doubles, a triple and two home runs, driving in seven runs and stealing eight of 11 bases. Armendariz also has appeared in three games on the mound and has not allowed a run in 5 1/3 innings with four walks and six strikeouts.
Also in the Northwoods League, third baseman Jimmy Allen is hitting .256 for the Eau Claire Express with five doubles, a triple, one home run and nine RBIs while relief pitcher Reed Reilly has pitched five innings in four relief appearances for Waterloo with no record and six strikeouts.
Three Mustangs are playing for the Conejo Oaks in the California Collegiate League.
Second baseman Denver Chavez is hitting .355 with five doubles, two triples, one home run and 13 RBI, stealing 10 of 11 bases, while first baseman Jordan Brower has a .214 average with two doubles, a home run and six RBI.
On the mound, Braden Young is 1-2 with a 2.77 ERA, pitching 13 innings in 10 relief appearances with 17 strikeouts and only five walks.
Pitcher Kyle Brueggemann is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in three starts for the Asheboro Copperheads in North Carolina. In 15 innings, Brueggemann has struck out five and walked three.
Pitcher Chase Johnson is the lone Mustang in the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer and sports a 2-0 record and 3.24 ERA with the Orleans Firebirds. Johnson has struck out 10 and walked two in 8 1/3 innings.
Outfielder Tyler Evanoff is hitting .250 for the Nevada Bighorns in Carson City with two doubles and a pair of RBI.
Several other Mustangs are playing in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League.
At Corvallis, outfielder Alex Michaels is hitting .242 with two doubles and eight RBI while pitcher Bryan Granger has a 2-1 record and 1.44 ERA. In four starts, he has allowed six walks and 18 strikeouts over 25 innings. Outfielder Nick Torres has a .210 batting average with six doubles and a triple, knocking in 13 runs and stealing four bases.
At Bend, Michael Dingilian is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA, striking out six in five innings over four relief appearances, while Danny Zandona has no record and a 6.75 ERA with one strikeout in three relief stints on the mound (2 2/3 innings). First baseman Tommy Pluschkell is hitting .192 for the Elks with two doubles and one RBI.
Michael Holback, pitching for Kitsap, has no record and a 2.08 ERA. In five games (one start) over 13 innings, he has struck out seven batters. Jordan Ellis has lifted his batting average to .233 with two doubles, a pair of triples and two RBI.
At Walla Walla, Matt Imhof has pitched in three games (two starts) and sports an 0-2 record and 5.27 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings.
Matt Russell, an outfielder, is playing for the SoCal Angels in the Central Coast Baseball League.
Shut down for the summer are pitchers Joey Wagman, Taylor Chris and Colton Haynes along with catcher Elliot Stewart, infielders Evan Busby and Michael Hoo and outfielder Tim Wise.
