SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After averaging a double-double during the course of two games to help fuel the Cal Poly men's basketball team's home victories against Hawai'i (Jan. 24) and Cal State Northridge (Jan. 26), Mustang junior forward Chris Eversley was named Big West Conference Player of the Week on Monday morning.
Bolstered by 19 points and eight rebounds from Eversley, Cal Poly (5-3, 9-9) inflicted an 88-59 defeat upon Hawai'i in the first meeting between the two programs as Big West opponents. Eversley, who finished 8-for-11 from the floor against the Warriors (11-9, 5-4), also produced a career-high four steals.
Eversley returned two nights later during a 75-64 victory against Cal State Northridge (10-11, 1-8) to register a career-high 30 points and grab 14 rebounds. The first Cal Poly player to score at least 30 points in a game since All-Big West selection Lorenzo Keeler notched 31 at Hawai'i (Feb. 20, 2010), Eversley, also drained a career-best 11 field goals versus Cal State Northridge and was 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
During the course of the two triumphs, Eversley led Cal Poly in points (49), points per game (24.5), rebounds (22), rebounds per game (11.0), free throw percentage (88.9) and minutes per game (34.5).
The pair of victories not only vaulted Cal Poly into third place in the Big West standings, but extended the program's home winning streak against conference opposition to nine games.
As of Jan. 28, Eversley ranks fourth among Big West players with 7.8 rebounds per game and seventh with both 16.4 points per contest and a 78.5 (73-for-93) percent free throw mark.
Monday's honor was the first of Eversley's career and second by a Mustang this season after senior guard Dylan Royer claimed the award on Nov. 26.
Cal Poly looks to complete a pair of season series sweeps when visiting UC Irvine on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. and Big West-leading Long Beach State on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. Saturday's showdown against Long Beach State will be televised live by Fox PRIME TICKET.
