Mustangs Open 2013 Campaign against Saint Mary’s, Fresno State

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Big West Conference defending champions will open the 2013 season with a pair of matches this weekend in Fresno. On Saturday the Mustangs will take on Saint Mary's and Fresno State on Sunday.

Both matches will be held at the Spalding. G Wathen Tennis Center on the Fresno State campus. Saturday's first serve is set for 11 am while Sunday's is at 10:30.

The Mustangs enter the week ranked 62nd in the latest ITA College Tennis Rankings while Fresno State is ranked 50th (Saint Mary's is not currently ranked). Cal Poly senior Andre Dome is the lone player competing this weekend who is ranked (89th) in the latest poll. 

Dome, last season's Big West Conference Player of the Year, heads a lineup with a 2-2 fall record at the ITA All-American Championship while junior Marco Comuzzo posted an impressive 9-3 fall record.

Last season Dome posted a 16-4 record in dual matches and was 22-7 overall. He was a perfect 7-0 record in conference matches and did not drop a set. He reached an ITA ranking of No. 40 and defeated six nationally ranked players including No. 43 Grogy Batrakov of BYU and No. 44 Matiha Pecotic of Princeton.  Dome also received first-team honors in doubles when he teamed  with senior Matt Fawcett and posted a 11-1 record, 10-1 from the first court. Dome qualified for NCAA's in singles and doubles last year. 

Comuzzo was 12-8 record in dual matches and 14-11 overall last season. He was 6-1while playing on the fifth court, 4-4 on the third court, 1-0 on the second court. In doubles play he was 13-5 in dual matches with a 4-1 record at No. 2 and 9-4 at No. 3.

Senior Jordan Bridge returns to the lineup after a 4-6 fall season. Last year he finished 10-8 in dual matches and 12-9 overall. He was 9-4 from the fourth court while in doubles action he was selected all-conference second-team with teammate Brian McPhee. The duo tallied an 11-6 mark with a 7-3 record on the second court and 4-3 record on the first court. 

Junior Jurgen De Jager posted a 2-3 fall record picking up both win at the UCSB Classic. Last season De Jager was an impressive 13-5 dual matches and 20-7 overall. In doubles play he recorded an 11-6 record in dual matches and was 12-7 overall.

Sophomore Naveen Beasley ended the fall season with a 6-3 record picking up four wins at the UCSB Classic. Last season in limited action, Beasley was 3-5 overall and 1-0 in dual matches.
