Men’s Tennis Sweeps UC Santa Cruz,7-0, to Improve to 4-2

AVILA BEACH, Calif. – The Cal Poly men's tennis team hosted the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs in a non-conference tennis match Sunday at the Avila Bay Tennis Club and swept the match 7-0 to improve to 4-2 on the season.


Andre Dome teamed to Marco Comuzzo to defeat Erich Koenig and Eli Scandalis, 8-1, on the first court. Matt Thomson and Gannon Daynes backed it up with an 8-6 win over Bryce Bettwy and Sam Rodgers to secure the doubles point for the Mustangs.


On the second court the Cal Poly team of Matt Thomson and Gannon Daynes dropped an 8-6 decision to Bryce Bettwy and San Rodgers, 8-6.


Dome, ranked 87th in the nation, made fast work of Koenig on the first court, 6-1, 6-1, while Comuzzo defeated Halabi 6-2 and 6-4 on the second court to put the Mustangs up 3-0.


Freshman Klein continued  his solid play with a 6-4, 6-1, win over Bettwy on court three with Jurgen De Jager winning 6-2 and 6-4, on the fourth court over  Sam Rodgers.


Junior Matt Thompson dominated Rosner, 6-0 and 6-3 on the sixth court, but it was on the fifth court that the Mustangs had their only struggle with Naveen Beasley coming from behind to defeat Scandallis, 5-7, 6-4 and 10-6.
