SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --Cal Poly senior Andre Dome sparkled in conference play to take home Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Dome (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grande HS), ranked No. 25 nationally in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, lived up to his lofty ranking with two impressive victories as the Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.
Dome helped Cal Poly rise to the top of the Big West standings as the Mustangs won two crucial road matches against UC Davis and Pacific by identical 5-2 scores on the road.
Dome notched singles victories from the No. 1 draw against both opponents in quick fashion. He pinned a 6-2, 6-3 defeat on Aggie counterpart Toki Sherbakov and downed Tiger top player Sem Verbeek in a 6-2, 6-0 match. That aided the Mustangs in pulling off the upset against the No. 66-ranked Tigers and displacing them from first place in the Big West standings.
In addition to improving to 17-2 in dual singles matches, Dome partnered with Jordan Bridge to notch a pair of doubles wins at No. 1. The Mustang duo knocked off UCD duo Sherbakov and Adam Levie, 8-4, and eked past Denis Stolyarov and Alex Hamilton of the Tigers by an 8-6 score.
Cal Poly concludes the regular season on Saturday, April, 20 at UC Santa Barbara at 1 pm.
