Andre Dome Advances to Second Round of NCAA Championship

URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Cal Poly senior Andre Dome advanced to the second round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship with a straight set win on Wednesday morning in Urbana, Ill. Dome will return to action on Thursday against the No. 4 seed Anthony Rossi (Kentucky) at 6 am (PT).

Dome, ranked 30th in the nation, made quick work of the senior from Georgia Tech, Juan Spir, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Spir entered the NCAA Championship ranked No. 50 in singles.

The win avenged a loss for Dome at the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Ok when Spir defeated the Cal Poly player, 7-6, 6-3, in October. At the time Dome was ranked No. 20 while Spir was No. 30.

The two-time Big West Player of the Year and four-time All-Big West First Team selection is an astounding 21-2 in dual matches and 24-4 overall this season at No. 1 for Cal Poly.  He has won his last 20 matches and has not lost since the end of January.
