Cal Poly Swimmers Dominate at Invitational

– SOUTH GATE, California -- The 2011 Finis Collegiate Invitational wrapped up day two with Cal Poly dominating the event. Both men and women finished in first place at the end of competition Sunday.

Both women and men had two teams finish in first and second place in the 200 yard medley relay.

In the 400 yard individual medley, senior Kylie France won first with a time of 4:27.73. In second place, sophomore Amanda Maffris finished with a time of 4:29.99. And sophomore Jill Jones rounded out the top three with her time of 4:33.70.

On the men's side of the 400 yard individual medley, sophomore Konrad Antoniuk (seen at right) came in first (4:10.20). He was followed by freshman Tyler Pickett, who finished second, posted a time of 4:14.31. Freshman Carter Price finished third (4:17.81) and freshman Cameron Johnson came in fifth at 4:31.93.

Cal Poly women swept the A finals in the 100 yard butterfly taking all eight spots. Senior Gloria Benefield won the race with a time of 56.48. She was followed by freshman Belen Enguidanos (57.55), sophomore Rachel Cleak (57.85), sophomore Andrea Voight (58.07), junior Chrissy Thomas (58.39), junior Angie Haven (58.82), sophomore Kelsey Engel (58.89) and senior Amy Morales (59.37).

Freshman Henrik Ohrstrom came in second place with a time of 51.68. In fourth place was sophomore Joseph Wasko (52.82), freshman Jesse McWhirk (53.22) came in fifth, sophomore Drew Casier (53.96) finished sixth and in seventh place, freshman Kyle Lindsay (54.96).

In the 200 yard freestyle, sophomore Andrea Voight won with her time of 1:52.97. Junior Taylor Spivey took third (1:55.13), senior Lacey Buck came in fourth (1:55.99), junior Katrina Anderson got fifth (1:56.26), sophomore Taylor Riley (1:58.48) came in sixth (1:58.48.) Rounding out the top finishers were junior Vanessa Pollitt (2:01.32) in seventh place and in eighth place was sophomore Danielle Wong (2:03.10).

Freshman Christian Renfro took first in the men's 200 yard freestyle with his finish time of 1:42.57. The second place finisher was junior Eddie Huang (1:43.57), followed by sophomore Adrian Brynnel (1:44.93). Sophomore Matt Jude came in fifth (1:47.60) and Kyle Lindsay (1:49.97) came in eighth.

The first three finish times in the women's 100 yard breaststroke belonged to Cal Poly swimmers. Junior Angie Haven finished first (1:06.20), followed by junior Vanessa Pollitt (1:06.36) and sophomore Jill Jones (1:07.00).

For the men, freshman Jimmy Deiparine came in second (58.13), freshman Mackey Hopen got third (58.44) junior Omar Dwidar (1:02.56) got sixth and freshman Tyler Pickett (1:03.90) got eighth place.

Senior Gloria Benefield came in first place the 100 yard backstroke (55.87), she was followed by junior Katrina Anderson (56.47) in second and senior Amy Morales (58.90) in third. Junior Chrissy Thomas (59.15) came in fifth and freshman Padon Sivesind (1:02.07) finished eighth.

The men found success in the 100 yard backstroke as well. Freshman Henrik Ohrstrom came in third place (53.28), freshman Christian Renfro (54.11) got fourth and in sixth place sophomore Joseph Wasko (55.69). Cal Poly women finished the 800 yard freestyle relay with teams finishing in first, second and third place. The men's team finished first in the 800 yard relay.
