Adell Qualifies for U.S. Women's Amateur Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal Poly sophomore-to-be women's golfer Asia Adell has qualified for the 111th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, her first USGA national event.

Eight slots were available in a 71-player qualifying tournament Monday at North Ridge Country Club in Fair Oaks. Adell carded a three-over-par 75, posting bogeys on the first and final holes and finishing in a three-way tie for seventh place.

With two spots available for the threesome, the playoff began at the par-5 first hole and Adell prevailed with a par on the extra hole.

Adell will compete against the nation's best amateur women golfers August 8-14 at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, Rhode Island.

"This will be my first time competing in a USGA national event and I am beyond ecstatic," said Adell, who averaged 78.1 strokes over 26 rounds in her freshman season at Cal Poly, recording four top-10 finishes.
