Cal Poly Four Strokes Behind Santa Clara in Lamkin Grip Invitational
ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. -- Asia Adell carded a 77 as Cal Poly completed the first round of its its own Lamkin Grip Invitational four strokes behind Santa Clara on Monday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
Adell's four-over-par round on the 6,088-yard, par-73 course included a birdie on the 475-yard, par-5 18th hole. The sophomore sits in a four-way tie for third place.
The second-place Mustangs also carded a 79 by Caitlin Farley (10th place), an 82 by Morgan Thomas (16th place) and 85s by both Kirsten Locke and Alex Phillips (42nd place).
Three other Mustangs lead the 12 golfers competing as individuals. Laura Howard posted a 77 for third place, Sorelle Sedej carded an 80 for 11th place and Giovanna Ascolani shot 81 for 14th place.
Final round is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Cal Poly compiled a four-person 323 total, trailing Santa Clara's 319 total. Grand Canyon is third at 323 in the 12-team field.
Stephanie Kim of Northern Arizona posted a 74 for the first-round lead, followed by Charlotte Jaengkit of Grand Canyon with a 76. Kim notched three birdies while Jaengkit birdied the 330-yard par-4 fifth hole.
In addition to Adell and Howard, the others tied for third place are Margo Dionisio of Cal State Northridge and Balbina Guajardo of Santa Clara.
Kaohi Loo of Southern Utah carded an ace on the 163-yard second hole but finished with an 83.
