Caroline Walters Named Interim Head Volleyball Coach
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Caroline Walters has been named interim head coach of Cal Poly's women's volleyball team. Walters, who is in her third year as assistant coach, replaces Jon Stevenson, who was relieved of his coaching duties last week. Stevenson had been Cal Poly's head coach since the 2005 season.
"Caroline Walters has the team's confidence, knows the game exceptionally well, has proven to be a good recruiter and will be a good role model for our student-athletes," said Cal Poly Athletics Director Don Oberhelman. "She will do a fine job for our team this season."
Walters, who was a standout collegiate player at Santa Clara University, said, "I'm excited, and I know our players are, too. We have the ability to win another conference title, and that's our goal.
"With hard work and focus, we will do very well," Walters said. "The most important thing is that we provide our student-athletes with a great experience.''
Walters was Santa Clara's career leader in assists per game and was a three-time All West Coast Conference honorable mention.
